Default Measuring engine rpm?

What is the best way to measure engine rpm without a tachometer? Don’t want to spend a lot on a device I will not use very often.

For not much more you can get dial back timing light that shows rpm and you'll also be able to set total ignition timing by using the advance function.

I thought about that but already have an advance timing light. I’ll probably return the multimeter after I use it.

I guess as long as you don’t return the toilet after you’re done, I am okay with your plan!!

Exactly! Innova 5568. It works well to check RPM, and you can even use it to set your timing.

What kind of person returns tools? That's crazy-talk!

BORROW ONE !!! If you don't know anyone with a portable tachometer, call Auto Zone, Advance, or O-Reilly's and ask if they have one you can use or rent for a day.

I already have an oldie but goodie dwell meter w/ tach similar to one below.
But if that's all I needed, perhaps I'd make an offer on this NOS

Hey! I think I saw one of those on Antiques Road Show. It got appraised at $5000. No,...wait...that was $5.

P.S. If it still works, it's a "keeper"!

If you were closer, I have close to 20 dwell tachs.
I also have the Sun tool to calibrate them.
