Still having problems with my tachometer ( see video )
Still having tachometer problems... 1971 350/270hp coupe. I’ve let this slide for a while but it’s really starting to bug me. When I fire it up the tach works fine but little by little it starts acting weird. As the engine warms up the tach starts jumping around erratically. I can hear the engine running smoothly but the tach is all over the place. Eventually, once the car has warmed up it just drops to zero and stays there...

can't see the vid
perhaps your cable is bent/kinked and distributor should be rotated to better align cable to dist & so cable core does not bind against sheath.
perhaps cable needs lube.
I hear d a lot of the tach problems are due to the replacement cable being a little too short (vs the housing) so it could come un-seated from the gear.
Since your stops, almost sounds like what it is doing.
Something to check.
To check it I guess you would have to un-connect one end at a time. Check if distrib is turning it smoothly. If drill turns tach smoothly, etc.

Yep. Drive gear or 'button' wear inside the distributor and/or cable kinking or internal rubbing/wear. The problem is unlikely to initiate with the tach head, itself; but that is possible. My 'gut' reaction would be to replace the tach cable and re-clock distributor as needed to minimize any sharp bends in the cable between tach and distributor.
Once you have removed the cable from the distributor, you could also remove the drive gear and check out wear on it and the button.
