Yes JB weld is good with gas or oil. Back in the early 70's there was a service buletin to fill a pocket that leaked. As I remember it was on th bottom of the base.
Thanks domenic tallarita i guess i can fill it up with gas to see if it leaks because some of the seals look compromised. Not a full revolution of sealant on parts that have that green goo they used in the 70's
If your well pockets are actually leaking, it would be better to drill & tap from the outside, then cut 2 flathead Phillips screws to about 1/4" thread length to insert and plug those wells. Put a bit of that marine JB Weld on the threads and the back of the screw head before you install them. If you ONLY use epoxy, the heat, vibration, and fuel could deteriorate that joint and cause it to leak again.
The carb companies plugged off some drilled passages with little ball bearings (drilled hole a bit smaller diameter than the ball). Drive ball in completely (outside flush with metal surface), then tap metal around it to lock it in place. They 'coined' the metal to retain the bearing; but small punch to bend metal edge down around bearing will work, too.
A "permanent" fix would be best. To test it, just put water or gasoline in the fuel bowl to see if any leaks out.
