Default '74 engine harness

Should it matter whether the car is automatic or manual when buying an engine harness? I can't see why it would. Thanks in advance

You do have the electrical connection for the kick-down thingy on the TH400 that you probably wouldn't have for a 4-speed. It's operated off the same switch (I think) as the cowl induction flapper door thingy. GM

Yes, there is a difference. A 4 speed car has a harness that interfaces with the TCS system. There's a sensor on the tranny, a vacuum controller on the intake manifold and the wiring for the temperature sensor in the rear of the right hand head. I believe an automatic is different at least from the point of not having the sensor wiring for the tranny.
