Air cleaner replacement
I am a relative novice so sorry if this is a basic question. I recently got a 75 vette that had an Edelbrock triangle air cleaner installed. True to reputation, it started on fire. Luckily the damage was just limited to the foam filter. Regardless, I want this thing off my car. I’ve tried a 14x3, but it hits the ignition coil so no dice. Will I get enough airflow if I go down to a 10” air cleaner? I think I need to stay at 3” for hood clearance.

If the only thing in the way is the ignition coil, and the hood will close with the 14x3, move the coil. Any 14x3 will be a major improvement over that POS triangle thing. Personally I am a fan of the Moroso air cleaner, but there are plenty of good ones on the market.

When you said coil, I was thinking points and external coil. Glad you got it to work. I have about the same clearance on mine. You should be much happier with that air cleaner. Enginemasters did a dyno comparison of various air cleaners a few years back and found those triangular units the worst by a wide margin.
