My 350 was rebuilt many years ago with a after market upgraded crank.I noticed my front seal behind the harmonic balancer has started to leak. Can a stock one fit or do I need to measure crank ? Unfortunately I can't seem to find my crank info.
The front crank seal would be the same, it seals on the harmonic balancer, not the crank.
Be sure to check for grooving on the balancer. If there are no grooves, Use a shoe shine motion to polish it with a strip of 240 grit sandpaper, to give the seal a good smooth surface to seal on.
I would recommend you get the harmonic balancer remove/ install tool from AutoZone (free rental, and not too expensive if you decide to buy it) also be sure to use some oil on the threads of the tool. Everything is better with lubrication. Lol
Good luck.
Jeff
Also, when the damper snout has been grooved by seal, several old-line mfgr offer an inexpensive "redi-sleeve" or similar. It's a very thin stainless steel sleeve that slips over the snout and it's lightly tapped into place. Cheap, easy and durable.
