Hi, have a 81 corvette with a choke problem , choke is lit up on in the cluster and no 12v to the thermostat. . Does it get it's power thru the oil pressure switch and if so i think the car had two , any help would be great
thanks Bob
So the green wire connected to the electric choke never has 12V on it? I had a similar problem on my 80. It was as simple as replacing the fuse. Getting under the dash and finding the fuse wasn't simple, but fixing it was. I don't know if the 81 is the same, but there is a choke relay under the center dash of an 80. If it is not the fuse, you might check that next.
Green wire going to choke has power at times, oil pressure reading on the gauge stays at 40 psi and goes to 0 when key is off , thinking maybe a bad connection in the dash as the gas gauge doesn’t work at all.
thank you bob
There's a choke relay in the console on the driver's side. If that relay fails the choke light will illuminate and you lose power to the choke. If you need the part number, I can get it for you.
oil gagues at idle will read less than 50 PSI when you step on the gas oil preasure will rise to above 50PSI
wire to choke when you get into car you must tap on your gas pedal this will close the choke butterfly, when you than turn your key on if the engine is cold most have to tap the gas pedal several times, with the key on it can take op to 2 minutes for the choke to warm up and open
