Default Oil temp sensor on 78 vs Clock

I know this topic has been covered numerous times but after reading most of them, Im finding that mine is not the same configuration as the others. I know the pre 80 vettes had a clock vs oil temp. I have bought an oil temp gauge and sending unit. Everywhere Ive read, Ive seen others saying to put the sending unit either at the distributor(where my oil pressure sending currently is) or down above the oil filter. Others have said theirs was plugged with a hex head bolt, however, I have nothing there. I attached a few pics below but maybe Im missing something? Anyone with any ideas would be great. Thanks.

I can't really see well in the photos but the picture below from a prior post on this issue shows the location of where my OEM oil pressure sending unit was before I relocated to behind the distributor on the top of the block and where the oil temp sending unit is today, installed in 1985, on my 78. Is your engine original? Something is not right or the picture on your car should have the OEM oil pressure sending unit from the factory, right above the oil filter like in the picture below....

Yea, I saw your original post. Pic I posted is somewhat hard to see but mine does not have a hole there or a hex head bolt. Its just solid there...Not sure why there is no bolt there? Ive read so many conflicting posts. Its like some people with 78’s and 79’s had a bolt there and some didnt. Surely the factory would have made them all the same? If it was a different size engine, I could see that but all being the same block...makes no sense...

Do you know for sure if your block is original to the car or a replacement engine?

In your first picture above the filter on the base I do see where the plug is suppose to be for the oil pressure switch and it appears to be a headless plug without the allen wrench indentation but there....... Here is what it should look like...

Would not be surprised if prior owner removed the allen head plug and put something else in the spot or GM ran out of the proper plug on the factory floor and improvised.....

1. Someone tried installing or removing a sender and it snapped off ?
2. Someone tried installing a plug because he wanted the sending unit under the distributor & the head snapped off.?

can you see or feel threads on the end of the stub?

Never heard of an original sending unit to be mounted under the distributor in 78. Flint would not let that block go out like that. They would have had it remove from the line and repaired .
Doesn't make sense to me either.
