Default Cracked mono leaf

Ive only driven my new 71 about 100 miles since purcase but got real familiar with c3 rear suspension on my 77 which had a steel leaf. With this car that I bought about 3 weeks ago there is not much history on when and how this crack happened.

Im curious if its going to fail more dramatically or stay the same for a while. Seems like the crack could have been from a jack being placed in that spot.

Im still driving the car but shopping for a new mono leaf. l'll take the opportunity to fix the rear diff seal when I replace the mono leaf.

I'm not that familiar with that spring its not a VB&P. Its probably a TRW or similar. It could have some sort of coating that starting to separate. I see its got a Heat shield so that shouldn't be the problem.

Not sure how it happened myself. I know I cracked one worse than that one many years ago, went off road in a spin hitting the dirt and bouncing pretty hard. Replaced the spring about 25 years ago now. Been keeping it on the pavement and no more issues.

That spring is toast. It will shatter and fail.

Another forum member here is actually removing one of those soon and said it would be for sale. Maybe you two can work out a deal?

Looks like he has the 355# and I have the 315#. He is removing because too harsh. I wonder if I should just get another 315# spring. I have Bilstein shocks.

Yours should be the 340 lb spring. Note the dot stamped on the "103".

Yes, I posted in that thread about having the same spring. With the Bilstein Sport shocks it is amazing. Valving is dead on. Uses the short bolts too.

I would probably not pair the 355# up with the HD's.

The 315# would be a good match to the HD's in my opinion.

Not sure what shocks she has on her car but I know it will be bouncy without the right shocks. Been there, done that.
