I don't know the specifics of the size requirements....but I found a good 'source' for the butyl tape. Turns out that construction sales outlets for metal roofs has lots of it at reasonable prices. They use the butyl tape under each panel overlay joint. Fifty foot rolls of [approximately] 3/32" tape are under $10.
P.S. As sticky as this stuff is, it would be simple to lay whatever number of layers to get the final thickness required. BTW, this butyl tape is great stuff!!!
I tried the Butyl tape. It was messy and I didnt feel that it held the window as securely as it could have been. Besides, its old tech..
I decided on 3M Window Weld. No issues at all.. Secure after 20 years..
Hello
This winter's project is to change the windscreen on my 69.
I wonder if anyone has tip on which butyl tape to use?
Width and thickness?
I have installed 2 or 3 C3 windshields with 3M Windo-Weld Ribbon Sealer, 3/8"x15', Part no. 051135 08612.
I bought it at Advance Auto locally stocked, but sure you can order it too.
I used the thickest ribbon since you can always press it in. The new PW windshields for C3's I got were prone to leave a gap at the upper corners. I think the curvature of the new C3 glass is not perfect in these areas. Also cleaned the glass with Dawn wash a couple of times and coated the glass edges with primer too. Used the spacers to set location with lots of trial fits. If you end up with a gap in the corners, I put a little bead of aluminum colored chaulking to mask it.
