My passenger side power motor was shot so I ordered a new one at a local auto parts store. The first unit I got I plugged it in and it didn't work. Tried plugging it in the drivers side(the old motor works on this side). Nothing. I returned it and they sent me a new one. Same problem with this one. Before I return it again, is there something I'm forgetting to do? I put the voltmeter on the plug ins and both have current flowing through. Do I have to do something to it before installing? It seems odd that they'd send me two consecutive broken units. :mad
I got your message the other day. I tried to reply but it isn't working for me. I sent you an email about a few parts.
I'll snap a pic of the new and old motor on mine tomorrow, you can tell me if yours matches. I may give the auto parts store one more chance if it turns out the motor is again falty. I'll let ya know.
You didn't say what year but my buddies 73 had a bad motor. We tested it by using a 12V battery charger as the power source. Grounded the black to the body of the motor (motor was out of the car) and then used a thin screwdriver in the jaws of the positive cable. You have two poles in the connector. Both are hot; one is up and one is down. We touched the screwdriver blade to one pole and the motor turned. Touched it to the other pole and got no movement. We verified the same thing with his good window motor and got movement in both directions. So, we knew that one side of the motor was bad. On disassembly, we found that the brushes were severly worn. He took apart a scrap motor and made his own replacement brushes. The motor now works in both directions.

When you tried it on the driver's side , did you ground it? The mounting bolts usually do this. Are you testing it without being installed? Could gummed up tracks and rollers be preventing it from working if it is installed?
Update: Driver's side decided to crap out on me today too. It worked a week ago. Not any more. Hooked it up direct to a battery charger. Still no go. I really didn't think to make sure it was grounded though. I'll try again with them grounded. This is really frustrating.
