I think most people believe that a posi traction rear end has no slip.
It has to so when you make a right or left turn the posi will slip on the inside axle so you don’t tear apart the gears in the rear end.
If one tire is on ice and the other is on dry pavement, the wheel on ice will spin.
I agree, thats why some call it a limited slip setup.
On this note, (not to hijack the thread but its a related question) what could cause a popping feeling in the rear end when making turns at low speeds only after everything has heated up? I purchased the additive to do a gear oil change but wondering if this is caused by something else? I have started a thread asking about it but didnt get much in the way of answers.
Augie- that is posi chatter. The best way to address it is to get it hot from a drive, suck out the old oil completely as possible ( that is why I always tap mine with a drain plug), add fresh 90wt or 85-140 wt gear oil, non synthetic, 2 bottles of GM limit slip additive. You can do the figure 8 deal in a parking lot, it won't hurt anything but once you start driving it will do the same thing. If that doesn't work you either live with it or drop the diff and tune the posi.
Gary I really like you posts. Keep them coming. From what the OP described, in your opinion does he have a problem with the posi? I would think he does.
