Hello everyone. As someone who doesn’t know much about engines or other mechanical things, I was looking for some help in the next step to getting my 68 running better. It’s got a 350 in it so non original which doesn’t bother me. It runs and stops now after 26 years. The motor is nothing special but I’d like to give it a little more pep. Maybe get somewhere in the 350-400hp range. Only good thing is it actually has headers on it. If anyone could enlighten me on how to select better heads, cam, other things in general with these I’d appreciate it.

Knowing something about the current 350 you have would be a starting pt to recommending what you might need. Before you (we) go throwing parts at it, have you checked that it has no vacuum leaks and its tuned for performance ??

The 350 is like a 70s model 2 bolt main. It doesn’t have any issues really at all it seems. I just got it back from the shop a month ago. Drove it 35 miles home and it did good.

couldn't agree more. If the OP has none knowledge. Buying a pre-setup kit along with a performance distributor and then perhaps, join a Corvette club. Make friends in the club who do have some knowledge and enjoy tinkering on cars. Have said new car club friends give you a hand and get this car going!

Hey Chase.... First contact Lars adn get hi timing papers. They will instruct you on how to set your timing so that its 36 degrees all in by 2500 rpm or so without the vacuum advance, then how to get the vacuum advance setup properly so you stay below 50 degrees.

Drive that around and see how you like it. It should feel really peppy. If you want a tiny bit more find yourself a 3.70 rear end and see how that feels. If you want more then you will want to change the cam, intake and heads which will get you where you want HP and torque wise. THeres another thread on here that is disccussing the exact same question. It might be in the general section.
