At some point in the history of my ‘68 someone fiberglassed over the stock reverse lights. The brackets were still mounted in the bumper behind the rear but just needed to be cut out. Last night I cut the right side out and reinstalled some lights I bought.
My only issue is that the fiberglass was real thick so now the lights sit kind of deep and from certain angles the edge of the fiberglass looks ugly. I plan on frenching them in and then painting at some point for a factory look.

For that much work that looks that bad, just do the job right and replace the rear valance panel. That valance is a hack job that needs to be replaced - not repaired.
