My husband owns a mint condition 1977 Corvette he inherited from his Dad. The car has less than 10K miles. From sitting for so long, it had some issues.
The A/C didn’t work
The power windows recently stopped working
3 of the headlights had blown out
Leaking transmission fluid
As a surprise gift for our 25th wedding anniversary, I took it to our mechanic to be repaired. I purchased all of the parts from Eckler’s. The mechanic has now had it for 1 month. Everything is perfect with the exception of something blowing either the circuit breaker or window relay. It started after the new window motors were put in.
Does anyone have any suggestions?? The windows go up and down a couple of times and then the relay blows. Initially, the circuit breaker blew, but now just not relay. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This certainly didn’t work out to be the surprise I wanted
The relay has to be replaced after a few cycles of lowering and raising the windows?
Do both sides cause this to happen?
Have you considered exchanging the motors?
Does your mechanic have a wiring diagram?
Does your mechanic have the shop manual?
Here is a link for the complete 1977 Corvette Troubleshooting Manual.
This manual covers both early and late build 1977, there is a significant difference between them.
Click each page photo to enlarge and save to a folder for later use if you want, or just save the power window diagram page.

When he first put the new motors in, everything was fine. The next day, he said when he went to test them, the circuit breaker blew. He replaced it and it blew again. He then replaced the power window switches. The windows would work for a while and then according to him, the relay was overheating. He installed the replacement relay today and the exact same thing happened.
I’m not sure what he has as far as diagrams and manuals. Yes, they have quit working regardless of which side you are using.

I am not sure if the wiring is the same s a '73, but on my '73 it is a real simple circuit. You have a power wire coming from the horn relay junction block to a circuit breaker on the firewall, to the relay and to the switches. From the switches it goes to the window motor. If it is blowing the circuit breaker, you either have a bad circuit breaker or the system is drawing too much current. He should have an amp meter and be able to check the draw and diagnose from there. If anything, I would suspect a bad door ground, dirty or sticking door regulators (I believe the motors will shut off if the load on the motor gets too high) or the new motors are out of spec.
FWIW, I replaced the motors, regulators and wheels on my windows and the windows fly up and down. One motor/regulator came form Paragon and the other from Corvette Central. I cleaned all of the grease out of the tracks and regreased and adjusted everything.
A lot of new motors require a harness extension due to the motor not having the same type of connection.
1. If your mechanic didn’t use this harness or connected wires wrong it could be the problem on the malfunctioning side.
2. if he did sloppy wiring it could have a short.
3. Unlikely but if the doors have been off the wiring through the jam might not have the protective boot and you could have a short.
