Default Oil Recommendations

First of all, I have read the two stickies above regarding engine oil - and my head is STILL spinning!!!

However, those threads are way too technical and are from years ago so I assume formulations and personal opinions have changed some since then...Therfore, I'm going to go ahead and ask:

What oil would you recommend for use in a newly rebuilt 350 for my '71 coupe project?

The old gave way...

...to this "new" baby

The engine now has a COMP CS 270H-R10 roller cam with 215/215 duration @ .050; lobe lifts of .3340, and separation of 110*. It also has hydraulic roller lifters and full roller 1.5 rockers with a double roller timing chain set. Also put in an Edelbrock Performer 2101 dual plane intake. A new Carter fuel pump, the original Quadrajet (hopefully to be overhauled by Lars), and an overhauled & recurved distributor will all feed the engine fuel and spark. It'll be connected to the basic 4-speed and will be used for normal street driving (normal for a CORVETTE ) using pump gas. No racing or autocross.

My local engine builder said to use Shell Rotella T4 15W-40 (diesel oil) for the first 500 miles. Since he built it, I'll definately follow his directions for break-in to keep the warranty valid. He said I could also just continue to use that after break-in, but that was up to me so I'll ask what you all are using.

Thanks for your input.

Paul

Fwiw, Mobil 1 15W-50. But why not listen to your engine builder?

you have a roller cam so any modern oil should be fine. The heartburn is with flat tappet lifters.

I used this break in procedure, conventional for break in, and now use 5w30 synthetic with my roller cam engine.
