I've noticed that many on this forum have a VBP fiber spring. I know that VBP is no longer in business thus my question. The spring came with what I'd call a rubber mounting pad. Do you know where I can get a pad to replace the original?
Bikespace suggested I call Van Steel which I did. Sure enough, they are not only familiar with the VBP spring mount but they have a mounting pad assembly that they say has been successfully used on these springs. There is no part number so if you call, you'll need to explain what you're looking for. Apparently they've sold enough of these that they'll know immediately what your asking for.
The assembly as I call it consists of three pieces. There are two thin rubber pieces about 3/16 inch think and one harder piece about 3/4 inches thick. The thinner pieces touch the spring while the thicker piece mounts above the spring/rubber and the differential.
I have two VBP springs (different stiffness ratings). When I removed the first to replace it with the second, the original mounting material was pretty much toast. It's nice to know that we can have the confidence to disassemble a VBP spring mount without running the possibility of having to buy a replacement spring. Thank you Van Steel.
