Default please help 1968 427/435

1968 427/435 engine crank pulley has marks and numbers all around on it... anybody knows which mark to use to set timing?

is it presently a running motor? if it is mark your dizzy body where the number one cylinder wire goes to the cap. Then remove the cap and bump the starter until the rotor swings around to say 12 degrees before the #1 position that you marked on the dizzy body. Then look down to your dizzy pointer and it should be at the timing mark.

In my tool box I have painter pens. get a white one and paint the damper mark so it shows up for your timing light.

NORMALLY the mark with the groove in it is used, but after 52 years of who knows what I would follow the above advice.

If you can take a clear photo or two of the markings it may help describe what mark to use.

If it has numbers all around on it, one of the numbers will be "0". This is your "normal" timing line, and can be used with either a standard timing light or with a dial-back as a "normal" timing line, aligning the "0" line with the desired timing mark on your timing chain cover timing plate. The other numbers and lines can be used with a standard (non-dialback) light to determine advance and total timing settings. They are not needed if you have a dialback light.
