the starter came from advance auto, up date so far my mechanic told me i should wrap my headers at first did not want to, ordered a starter blanket. jacked up the passenger side of the vette. now i,am 82 still handy but some what limited so with that said tried to install the blanket no luck how the mechanic got the starter in there is beyond me. so ran over to advance auto got 50 feet of header wrap. wraped the header collector and part way up the header pipe nearest to the starter. took it for a 10 mile ride pulled into the garage, turned off the key let it set for a couple of minutes. turned the key on and it fired right up. prior to wraping the collector it would turn over like the battery was dieing . so with that in mind ordered 150 feet of header wrap on line will be here dec 7th thanks for the reply ED
If you just wrap the headers in the vicinity of the starter / solenoid you should be ok. The wrap promotes condensation at cool-down. Condensation promotes rust.
So, when you turn 92 you will have a pile of rusted tubes. Header companies will void all warranties if wrap is incorporated. But at your age, you don't care.
I know what you mean about the starter blanket. It takes three small hands to get it around the starter, solenoid and wire harness. But I found attaching and snugging the metal bands around everything the hardest part. Those blankets really do help, no doubt.
