Default 18/17 tire sizes

I've been through all the 18" and 17" rim sections on the forum and I can't find anyone running 245/50. I'm looking for more side wall to move away from the low profile look. Has anyone wished they had gone with a 50 over a 35-45?

I'm currently running Torque Thrust 2 18x8 and 17x8

Yeah, I went with 255 40 18's in the rear and 225 45 18's up front in order to keep the overall diameter close to stock, like 26". I also had to go with those widths to fit the rims I choose, which are 9.5" X 18" rear, 8" X 18" front. So it is a compromise. I thought the tires looked too skinny when I received them but I am getting use to the look. Still, I would prefer a little taller side wall. The wheels you choose will dictate tire size if you want them to fit properly under the fenders.

245/50-17 on all 4 since 2015. Michelin Pilots, works great for me.

Well, to have more sidewall wouldn't you either have to go with a smaller diameter wheel or a larger diameter tire which would throw off everything. I never gave that a thought. I knew I wanted a 27" tall tire and 18" wheels. The math worked itself out.

I realize I'm looking for around a 27" tire.

245/45 18 = 26.7 diameter
245/50 18 = 27.6 diameter

I was just seeing if anyone wished they had gone with a 50 considering I rarely see them on the forums.

255/50/17 ZR's in back and 255/45/17's in front. I prefer the 255/45/17's in front for looks and handling but with 3.70 gears and a 4 speed I needed to preserve the 27 inch diameter of the OEM 255/60/15.
The 255/50/17 has the exact overall diameter of the 255/60/15...27 inches..

Not meaning to hijack the OP thread but C3TPI, is that the the trailing arm bolt that I circled in red? Shouldn't the nut be on the outside of the frame and the bolt head on the inside of the frame? I just took a look at mine and that's how they are oriented. By the way, your chassis is absolutely gorgeous!

I got 275/40-18 rear. Can't recall right off hand what the front are. A bit smaller.

255/50-17 all around, also. Same 27" diameter as the 255/60-15s that came off.

still working on getting the ride height correct

Hey, Cap'n, what six speed are you running in that car? Looks like the shifter came out right in the perfect position. Did you have to modify the console any to fit it in?

I totally agree...forget 50's....I would have used 255/45/17 ZR's all the way around if I did not have to be concerned about a higher numerical ratio than I already have with 3.70's and a 27 inch tire (255/50/17 or 255/60/15).....One of the points in going to a larger rim, 17/18's, is to use ultra high performance tires AND to use a lower profile tire for superior handling, steering response, and a better ride (yes a better ride than a 255/60/15). If you are only interested in looks, I suggest sticking with a 15 inch rim and save yourself a ton of cash.....
