I have both an assembly and shop manual for my '81, but can't find the torque spec for the bolts that cover the backside of the differential.
Differential Carrier Assembly? Batwing? Cover? I can't find the bolt spec.
With the Differential being aluminum, I want to be sure of the torque and not risk cracking the case.
Does anyone know the spec?
Thanks
Well, I don't have one...nor do I have the Chassis Service Manual for that year to look it up. If you have that year car, YOU need a Service Manual.
If the differential housing is aluminum (Really??), with small cover bolts, probably in the area of 10-15 ft-lbs would be my guess. If the carrier housing is really steel or cast iron with an aluminum cover, probably more like 20 ft-lbs. But, I'm guess-ta-mating....
