Looking for input on converting my L79 V belt to serpentine belt. The L79 has a short water pump and a driver side mounted alternator, this is my issue. It seems the conversion kits either state long water pump and/or passenger side alternator location. If you have done this, please give me your opinion and input.
Thank you,
Peter

You might look at 88-92 camaro/firebird set up. Not sure what type of water pump they use. I used an ac delete kit for the 88-92 on my 84 C4 but not sure if the 84 set up would work for you as it uses a reverse flow pump. Also look at 88-92 gm truck set ups.

I believe you mixed up your terminology. Reverse flow didn't come out until 93 on the LT1 engines. What you actually have is a reverse rotation WP, water flow is still the same. Belt is on the other side of the pulley so the impellers have to be reversed for std SBC flow.

You may want to look at the Holley Mid Mount to run the front accessories....and, YES, they do make them for SBCs and BBCs. You can buy the whole kit(with the typical holley price) or follow this lead and just buy the main contraption from Holley and source the other parts separately. This guy does a great job of explaining what it is that is needed(and you can eyeball the rest of the thread for additional info). Seems like this is wonderfully compact (this post was discussing the LS but you'll get the idea)

No doubt the serpentine belt is superior to the older "V" belts. But is it really worth the effort and cost given that most don't put that many miles on their vettes?
