Been working on the 77 project a few months now. Put all the electrical back together and dropped a new battery in and had power to gauges, lights etc. but would not start. No click or anything. I figured it was the NSS switch that I replaced. So I did several things. 1. I took the engine harness wiring block off of the fuse box block and had a friend on the inside helping me push them together. I had felt before that it wasn't on all the way before. 2. Cleaned and replaced engine ground bolt with a stainless bolt because the previous bolt was black oxide and I thought that it may not be getting a good ground. 3. I moved the NSS all the way aft. I did this after reading about how to adjust it. Pleased with all my handy work, I then hooked up the battery and now I have no power at all. I don't even know where to start at this point. What is the most likely thing to check first? I can tell you that my battery reads 12.7 and with a test light I do have batt power at the starter. I did try moving the NSS to several positions but still no power. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I came to the same conclusion. So I just went out to retrace my steps and I forgot to hook up the big red power wire to the harness. So stupid of me. I still can't get it to start but maybe now I can test things a little better with some power.
Starter does not engage at all. I unplugged the "S" terminal wire up at the engine and tried to see if I had any voltage when I turned the key to START. The meter jumped all over the place and I'm not sure how to interpret that. I have 12 volts at the starter and the alternator. I also have lights when I turn the key on. I will say when I turn the key to START the fan motor stops. I think this is telling me the ignition switch is working correctly?? I have also tried to move the NSS to different positions and tried to get a click or something. Nothing. Think it may be the NSS? I need to do some research on how to check it. It is new but I guess that doesn't mean anything.
Quick update. Moved shifter to every position and no start. Put a jumper between the purple and purple and white wire, still no start.
The large lug on the starter (one with the battery cable connected to it) should have 12 volts on it constantly. Purple wire should have 12 volts on it if you turn the key to start position only. What happens when you jump the starter lug that has the purple wire connected to it and the large lug on the starter? Car should crank (not start unless the key is in the run position) Doing this should engage the solenoid and crank the motor
I tried adjusting the ignition switch and realized that must be the problem. I ended up taking it out and running it through the detent positions and it seems to stick in the last one. I'm going to order a new one and try it out. No way I'm putting the old one back in cause that was a royal pain to get out. Hoping I can get the new one in without totally taking the column out. I should have checked for power on the purple first but my frustration took over.

Replaced mine 2 years ago. My sympathy goes out to you. I dropped my Column.
Good news!! I fiddled with the ignition switch and got it to work in all positions so I decided to just go ahead and put it back in and see what happens. It works!!! Starts in park and neutral just like it should. Can't thank everyone enough.
