Good Morning all! I just acquired a 79 L48. It has headers, chambered exhaust, no cats, no smog pump (I believe it is factory no pump). I do see evap system. How can I get this through normal emission inspection? Tips/Tricks please, Thanks

Does it still require emissions inspection at 42 years??
79Guy, Call your DMV and ask 'em if it has to pass emissions. I just ran my '78 through Delaware [pretty strict] and they did'nt "sniff " it at all! Good Luck, LowSporty
I live in Montgomery County PA and my 76 is exempt from PA emissions inspection if I drive under 5,000 miles a year. Call the station where you get your other cars inspected to see what your guidelines are.

Good afternoon go vette, I to live in Montco about 20 minutes from Ldale. 1975 and earlier no emissions, 76 up needs a visual emission ( if it came with, it must be present and working) and a gas cap pressure test. My car has the evap system on it and connected. It also camefrom the factory with no smog pump. Someone said to get dummy cats and a fake egr valve? is this a thing? anyone know of this?

I'm so happy I do not live in an area that requires smog inspections. However, if I did I'd probably take the car to have it tested as is in order to find out what needs to be done. Let the state tell you rather than trying to second guess. You will probably have to repay the inspection fee but I'm not familiar with how retesting after failure works. If you do have to pony up the fee more than once it's still probably less expensive than paying a shop's hourly rate.
(Coming from someone who sees the common good value in testing for pollutants... Yes, I admit my '67 and '72 are very smoggy, noxiously exhausting cars but when they're only driven a couple hundred miles per year – combined – their impact is the minusculest of minuscule compared to everything else on the road.)

What the inspection requirements are in PA. Pay attention to the emissions section. The way I read it, checking for a converter is not part of the safety portion but the emissions portion which depending how the car is registered it should be exempt from the emissions inspection. http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Public/DV...ons/PUB-45.pdf

How old is this info? If it was last year and cars 45 y/o didn’t need it, perhaps since it’s now 2021 the op’s 76 might not need it now???
I live in Northampton County Pa. Did you consider Antique plates? If you don't use it as a daily driver, this may make sense. No inspections, a one time license fee, and cheaper insurance. The state limitation is 50 times per year allowable usage. There are insurances that have mileage limitations but allow you to drive anywhere. If you have classic or regular plates, I believe the equipment must be there but not necessarily functioning. I have heard of people knocking the catalyst out of the converter and either blocking the vacuum hose or putting a plate under the EGR.
Register it as a classic. You'll need 4 pictures. If it does not look stock, the state won't issue a classic tag. Of course there are plenty of stock looking cars on ebay to send pictures of, just make sure it is the same color. Classic do not need to be emissions tested. If you drive less than 5000 miles a year, you would get an exemption sticker.

I don't know that encouraging fraud is the best recommendation.

im not. Even if the wheels are not stock, a classic tag will not be issued. There is another option. Pa has a street machine tag also but I'm not familiar with the requirements.
Hopefully by now cops know that vintage tags are legal in Pa. When I was going to do one of these tags, most cops were not aware of the change. p.S. we need to get together some time. I'm near the ex 7-11 on swered
Registered antiques can only be legally driven during daytime hours. Not that most cops care.
This is what I thought until I read the requirements., They were slightly ambiguous so I called my state rep at the time, Julie Harhart, and she clarified that antiques could be driven after dark as long as the lights met current safety standards. I quickly googled it and that appears to be what the internet is saying also.
