If anyone has a spare shift handle that will bolt up to a TKO shifter I would really appreciate it. Spent and hour at the junkyard and nothing but old 70's and early 80's cars there. The newer cars must go to wholesale junkyards where the parts are recycled for repair shops. I know I need to build a spacer to get it positioned right, but I need a place to start and don't want to buy a new shifter just for the handle. Just name a reasonable price or let me know where I might look for just a handle.
hey guys...gota a question for ya....what is the deal with the tremec shifter now adays?? I am thinking about getting a tko in the spring. is everyone just making a spacer? monty...in a post over a year ago you spoke about a place that made a spacer (E.M. Glabus Co. - 'Super Precision Machining Aerospace Quality' - (708) 766-3027)....there was some pics in there but then they are gone now,....do you still have those pics by any chance? if so could you post'em?
if its cheaper to make something...anyone have pics or description of how to make them??
Thanks...Chris

A spacer only works with late C3's (late style console). The old console is too low and a spacer doesn't work. Thw way to do it on earlier C3's is to cut the top part of the shifter off. weld a bracket onto the rest of the shifter to space it to the left... and weld the top part of the shifter on that bracket (the part with the 2 holes for the shifter handle)
I'll have to check and see if I still ahve the pics of the shifter I had made. The shifter handle I sent was an extra I had from E.M. Glabus. 81Vette has the complete shifter, along with the spacers etc, I got from them, he may be willing to post some pics of it if you ask him.
I used my old Hurst handle cut down and redrilled. That combined with a cut, spaced and welded shifter stub works great. Now to see if the pic works. :smash:
Thanks Steve...guess ill have to do some welding with it....I have the hurst shifter as well so its nice to know I can use it
i hope some of you can clue me in on how to install one of these tremecs. im gonna post in a few weeks to get all the parts needed and custom fabbing that ill need to do so I can start ordering parts and get a cost estimate. I checked all the archived posts but couldnt find any worthwhile explanation of the install.
