I am in the process of rebuilding a 1970 coupe 350/300 auto that I purchased apart. I'm ready to start it for the first time and seem to be getting no power to the starter. I checked the grounds at the neg terminal and the starter ,all of the starter wires are good and wired properly. I feel like I am missing something obvious. Ignition switch /neutral safety switch? If I jump the purple to red on the ignition switch the starter should engage? How would I by-pass the safety switch? Thanks in advance
The safety switch will stop power getting to the solenoid so that could be the issue, try moving the shifter to neutral or slightly forward/aft of the neutral and see if it will kick the starter
There is a larger purple and purple/white strip wire going to the safety switch but the connector is under the shifter console plate so harder to get at to bypass.
Here's how to jump the starter with a screw-driver (actual part is around the 1:30 time) (be very careful, someone in the car, in park, all that stuff)
