I did a McLoud, others Ram, you will get so many recommendations. Read review of clutch kit that are in your hp rating. It more about proper insulation and correct setup. For your application you pretty much can't go wrong with any of the popular brands.

Just to give a little more info about why I selected the RAM HDX for my replacement clutch. in 2013/14 I was upgrading/rebuilding completely my 65K OEM L-82 and since I was pulling the motor I was going to change the OEM GM clutch and resurface the flywheel while all was out of the car.

The notable changes to the OEM L-82 were a .030 bore, no decking of the block, AFR heads, Howards Roller Cam, reconditioned/reused the L-82 forged rods/crankshaft, 10.2:1 compression, reused/ported the OEM L-82 aluminum intake, L-82 valve covers, L-82 cold air dual snorkel intake etc. The result is about 425-450 Gross HP.

The OEM clutch and flywheel looked pretty darn good and easily would have gone over 100k+ miles. I wanted a clutch kit that would feel the same or softer than the OEM GM Delco clutch with no installation of operational issues and last just as long. Primarily the recommendation of the engine builder who did the machine work on the block and built the short block ( I did everything else including top end, cam, etc and reinstall of the motor). I did have the clutch balanced to the rotating assembly and the OEM GM flywheel resurfaced.

The Ram HDX was a strong recommendation from the builder for a great quality, great value clutch kit for my power level (450 gross HP) with a similar feel to the GM clutch with less effort. All of that description has been spot on......Highly recommend the RAM HDX. I would skip many of the fancy expensive clutch brands if you have less than 500 Gross HP..they are not needed and many of them are problematic for no reason....

I'm using a McLeod Super Street Pro. Works great .I've had it too long to remember how pedal effort compares to a stock replacement. But I can say it is smooth and not hard to push. My engine is similar to jb78L's and it holds the power just fine.

I am running a Mcleod RST1200. It is good for 1200HP flywheel. I dont have plans of exceeding that and was reasonably priced.

Along the same query, my M21 has about 56k miles on it. from what I know of the Pace Car's history, it was heavily autocrossed...still find wads of red clay stuff away in the chassis.

What shoud I expect of the clutch's condition at this point? I have plans to have the four-speed rebuilt and have a rebuilder line up....thx

I run a McCleod Super Street Pro.......about as good as it gets.......perfect pedal action and stiffness......you can actuallly feel when the spring diaphragm goes over the nose and releases the plate......
Lars did a write up a few years back about the McCleod vs. Brand X and how they disengage......search for it or he may have the link.

I run Mcleods. They are easy on your leg and lock up tight. The Pressure plate is the same on their single spring plates with the HP difference being in the disc itself. So if you have one set up you can change the HP rating just by buying the correct disc without having to buy the whole setup....I bought 3 before they told me that...
