Default Single stage paint question

Hello All,

Not a tech/performance question but I'm hoping someone on the forum has some experience with singlle stage paint.

I painted my C3 with the help of a good freind who was a paint and body guy his whole life. Unfortunately he has since passed so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I have a small area on the car that needed a touch up. I preped the area and mixed the same paint that was used on the car with the hardener and reducer you see on the attached pics using an airbrush. the coverage looks great after spraying. After letting it dry for a couple of days I tried cutting and buffing to even everthing out but I get a very faint dark shadow that developes on the newly painted area. If I try to clean the area with laquor thinner after it's dry I see the newly painted area interacts with the thinner. No issues or reactions with the original paint . I know very little about this but I'm assuming that I'm not adding enough of one thing to too much of another.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Jose

If you zoom in you can see a very light but noticeable darker shadow. It gets worse with buffing.

Hardener I used

Reducer I used

Same paint brand and color used to paint entire car

Probably get more/better responses you post in "Paint/Body" section of "General Corvette Topics).

BTW: curious about responses -touch-ups seem inevitable.

generally speaking you would feather the edge with reducer or highly reduced paint, or a 'melting' solvent paint to blend in or a blending solvent..
helpful to have 2 guns spray the area then 'melt' the edge to melt into existing paint..then buff..

i bet the paint you used had a cheat sheet..

Thanks. I didn't see how to move to that section so I duplicated it over there. If an admin see's this you can remove to avoid duplication if you like,

Single stage has color and clear mixed. Touching up isn’t easy as you try to blend and cut bc as you go to cut and polish u burn through the clear and into the base/color. I would paint the whole section/panel/bumper again honestly. Every time I’ve seen feathering done the short term is fine but you always get clear flaking etc.

I’ve never had good luck with touching up single stage and metallics.

paint it too new to go near it with lacquer thinner. at least a month, more would be preferrable.
