Here's the fittings and everything I used on my 72

The fittings I used are all from Tallon, also listed the Russell numbers that should be the equiv. Great service but honestly the fittings all needed some deburring on the threads and ends to get them to fit nicely.
Russell 648080 Tallon THI 4990- 18X1.5 o-ring to 6AN (HB unit High Pressure in)
Russell 648060 Tallon THI 4991- 16X1.5 o-ring to 6AN (HB unit High Pressure out)
Tallon THI 8203- 5/16-24 o-ring to 6AN (HB unit low pressure return)

Russell 697100 Tallon THI 8201- 7/16-24 thread to 6AN (1/4" inverted flare, steering valve pressure in)
Russell 640380 Tallon THI 4996- 5/8-18 inverted flare to 6AN (PS pump high pressure out)

Tallon THI 6601- 3/8 x 3/8 x 3/8 Tee fitting (low pressure return)

Russell 620421 Tallon THI1389- AQP 90deg 6AN to 3/8 reusable hose ends, four of them
Tallon THI????- 90 deg 6AN to 3/8 barb fitting (can't find the PN right now) for the HB return line

Aeroquip FCC0606 6 feet of -06 teflon braided line

The unit itself was reman Delco unit for a 94-95 astro/safari van

Since I didn't have a unit to start with from a van, I also needed to buy the parts to make up the rod from the hydroboost to the master cylinder
Both from Talon (can't seem to find anywhere to buy a "OEM" one)
THI 27288 for the spring kit (doesn't look like the stock unit but works)
and I got the THI 3025 oversize pushrod that you cut to whatever length you need.

Install (overly complicated) was here

One thing go consider if you get a reman booster, they don't come with the master cylinder push rod. You will need to source that.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I hope I have all the parts correct as I have now ordered everything

\Mooser do you happen to know the length that the rod needs to be cut to?

I had to get the master cylinder from a later model C3. 77 and later if I recall. My 69 would not work.

It depends on a lot of things, mine was just over 3 (3.07" by the looks of it, there is a picture in that thread I posted) deep bore MC were 3.45" type of thing. Best to measure your actual setup and make it to fit.
NOTE: there should be a little bit of a gap (.01-.02) and make sure the brake pedal has some extra room before it hits the upper stop for when the system heats up

Has anyone heard of or used Matt Sweeting's SPEED @ powerbrakeservice.net? I ordered a Push Rod and Spring retainer clip for the Hydro-Boost brake booster I got but i haven't gotten any replies to my emails about it. I also have emailed TALON without any success. I guess it's a problem with living the other side of the world.

Anyone have any other companies that can supply the part? Thanks

Hi Guys

I've sent emails to Talon Hydraulics and powerbrakeservice.com trying to get the Push Rod and Spring retainer Clip for the Hydro-Boost Brake Booster, but aren't getting any replies. Anyone able to confirm if they are open or if there is any other suppliers I can get in contact with. I can't find anywhere in Australia that can assist. Thanks

It's hard to believe that nobody seems to sell that little rod on it's own.
You could try Hydratech, they might be able to help you out

Its time to do my Hydro Boost brakes.
@Mooser has done an excellent job in his thread as well as contributing to others, thank you.
I assume that you used the 94/95 Astro Van because:
- the mounting plate bolt pattern lines up with the your 72 stock brake vacuum booster bolt pattern?
- the Astro van hydro booster allows the master cylinder to sit close to the location of the stock master cylinder with the stock vacuum brake booster?

On that hydroboost unit, Is there actually metric fittings on pressure in and out (18x1.5 & 16x1.5) with a SAE fitting on low pressure return (5/16-24)?

Has anyone found a new source for the spring and retainer kit as well as the push rod?

Cheers,
Richard

I went with the astro/safari unit as someone way back somewhere found out that they have virtually the same firewall bolt pattern as the vette and the master is the same bolt pattern. Those vans came with either hydroboost or vacuum boosters so the lengths etc are the same and the master ends up pretty much exactly where it was before.

The rod still amazes me that it isn't available. The plastic ok maybe but the rod is just a steel pin with rounded ends...
I'm still temped to go a a wreckers and pull a bunch of them out and start selling them

@Mooser You gave the list of fittings and I just want to make sure, on that hydroboost unit, Is there actually metric fittings on pressure in and out (18x1.5 & 16x1.5) with a SAE fitting on low pressure return (5/16-24)?

Thanks,
Richard

Those are the actual fittings I used with that hydroboost unit (are you looking here or over on my thread?)

You are consistent in this and the other thread (cut and Paste).
I just thought that it was weird that the 94/95 Astro/Safari van hydro boost would have both metric and SAE fittings?
I just want to make sure while I am compiling my parts list correctly. Mine will be Pump > Hydro boost > Rack and Pinion with both returns to a Tee back to the pump. Filter and cooler on R&P return.
My R&P in and out are 18x1.5 and 16x1.5 which are the same as that hydro boost pressure in and out. That Hydro boost low pressure return being 5/16-24 is the odd ball

Cheers,
Richard

I see where you are now (I think)
The return fitting will depend on what's in the HB unit (and what year as I think they changed some) but there's either a 16 x 1.5 o-ring in the unit itself and some will have the 5/16 x 24 o-ring (mine was the 5/16) which adapted to a 6AN

I did update the system later with a welded in separate pump return to eliminate the T fitting and I added a cooler up at the front

I will get a hydro boost unit first and then complete the inventory.
The pump with two return lines would work well here but my pump is new so I'll run it to the ground with a tee
Thanks for your help.
