Im trying to separate an exhaust off a roadster that I have without damaging either part. They have been together for probably 20 years.
I hit it with PB Blaster and tried to coerce it with a rubber mallet but nothing. Any ideas?
I would secure the right side so it doesnt twist..grab the headers and twist and wiggle after some heat on outside mating surface..
and put rubber hammer away..wood and min 3 pounder too..catch lip...in that order rinse with penetrant and repeat
It's a little hard to tell from your photo, but I'm assuming one pipe is inside the other. If that's the case, you need heat, and lots of it. Get an acetylene torch and heat the outer pipe until its red hot. You should be able to work them apart at that point.
ok that is a clamp much like on steering parts. take a chisel or fat screwdriver and drive it between the 2 parts that the bolt squeezed. put spreader in so you are not driving exhaust towards header but towards back of the car, that will spread outer piece open where clamp closed it tighter. may still meed heat.
