Need paperwork or info please
Brother just called from Germany. He's got a client with a BB vette ('66 427) that has been a race car in Europe for decades. It was exported to Switzerland in 1976 by Dick Goldstand. I have a VIN and I'd like to know if I can get some info or papers on it.
VIN 194376S120374
They want to transfer ownership of this vehicle but cannot do so in Germany without title or any paperwork to show the paper trail.

Where can this stuff be obtained?
:mad
I assume Dick Goldstand is actually Dick Gulstrand - who is still in business in the LA area I believe - They may even have a website, if you want to get in touch with him. Obviously you will have to find the present or previous owner of the vehicle. as records that old are almost certainly no longer kept anywhere.

Actually My Bro called him first. Yes he is still around and his response to my bro's question was kind of like "heck that was decades ago, whaddya expect" so there really was not much help there unfortunately. :mad
I've heard that in Europe this process can be a royal pain in the butt. They have had many centuries to hone bureaucracy to a fine art! And there are none of those companies that will help you get a title like over here...
Hmmm...maybe you could use one of those stateside companies to help you get a California title for it, which you could send over to Germany as supporting documentation as an "import."
I think it's a waste of time trying to do a title search. First of all, you need to know what state it came from, but then, even if you know that fact, states don't keep records back much more than 10 to 12 years, AND now you have to deal with the new "privacy laws", making it even more impossible to try to trace title information. I know next to nothing about the import/export business, but I have read that when a car/Corvette is exported, the VIN number and previous title accompany the vehicle. Maybe some of our European members can chime in, but it might be worth going back and checking the import records. You just might find a California/Maryland/etc. title.
Was the car actually "titled" overseas, or was it always a race car/off road car? Chuck
As far as I know it might be a real PITA to get the car registered in Europe if it has never been registered in USA. What you need in Finland to get the car registered is the previous register paper and a deed of conveyance. If the car has not been registered for a while the least you kneed is a deed of conveyance from the last owner when the car was registered...
I think the best way for your brother is to contact German authority and discuss about the possibilities. There might be some ways to get it registered if it is somehow clear that the car is not stolen.
