Hi All,
Obviously I am new here. I have joined to see if anyone has had issues with the 700R4 transmission in a 1982 C3 that I am experiencing. I have not found anything on the internet with what I am experiencing.
Here is the issue. For most of the year the transmission is fine, but in the summer on hot days after driving for twenty minutes I get a harsh shudder between 2-3 shift. It feels like the drive shaft is resting on the cross member as it rotates. When I bought the car 5 years ago the previous owner had the tranny rebuilt. I did not discover the issue until the following summer. I have added a tranny cooler, replaced the TV cable, flushed the transmission and put in synthetic fluid and put in a 160' thermostat in the summer. Everything has made the situation a bit better but not resolved the problem. From what I have read on the internet I'm thinking maybe the torque convertor is the cause of the shudder when it gets too hot, but why is it getting too hot.
I am looking forward to hearing anyones thoughts on this.
i would think converter would shudder when it felt like it. i think it is 2-3 shift. dunno if clutch or band. i think clutch. possibly plugged or stuck accumulator. so this would probably be trans back apart. in the mean time, stay on gas kind of hard in 2nd to hold it in gear and then lift up, forcing it to shift under no'load. will probably feel better and live longer. and welcome to the madness. and you can not edit thread title. have to ask a moderator. send private message to vettebuyer6369 .new member-700r shift issues woiuld be better title.

I don't have that transmission. All I can add is to check the snubber bushing on the differential, though that wouldn't be heat related.
I've been dealing with heat-related transmission gremlins for several cars lately (not C3s). Another flush with synthetic fluid and a viscosity stabilizer seemed to help a lot in one case. The best solution is always to add a third pedal to the car.
I'm no auto trans expert but I recommend ruling out the driveshaft and LSD rear before tearing into the trans. I had a truck once that would shutter like that and once I changed the diff oil and added friction modifier for the LSD disks it went away.
