Header Exhaust outlets
I've started the engine removal process, and put the headers up there to check fitment. I'm wondering about the darn exhaust routing now. CA smog laws say that the vehicle must have the same cat. setup that it comes with. It has to stay single ex if it came that way.
My Hedmans #68301 are smog legal. EFE valve and AIR tubes included. But how the he#$#@@ do I cross that drivers' side over, to Y into the right side? The existing crossover is right under the bellhousing. The header collector is going to be well aft of that.
So am I locked into dual exhuast now?? Can't smog it that way !! :mad :mad
Is there anyway of cutting some pipe out and welding the Y junction in further back? It's gotta suck to have to pass smog :yesnod: . Glad we don't have it on '83 and earlier vehicles here in Massachusetts :reddevil
Do they look under the car or just hook up to the mufflers? Check out your local smog testing station and watch what they do. If they just hook up to the dual mufflers then I would say its safe to get away with duel Cats.
