Default Electric cooling fans

I`m helping a friend rework his cooling system. He needs to go with dual pusher fans. I prefer a puller setup with a good shroud but its not an option with his setup. There are many fans available from Derale and Hayden and a few others including factory fans. Interested in whatever information I can get from those of you who are running electric fans. What fans have proven to be effective and reliable. How many CFM are required, etc.

what kind of car, power level?
Best fans imo are oem GM. Maybe off a truck luxury car etc.
They have to last many yrs, with ac on in traffic

many fan mfrs rate thier cfm with no radiator (restriction in front of it).
WIth a larger radiator you need a stronger fan; I have a 2000? cfm spal it isnt cutting it.

Do not have it installed as a pusher, but the MK8 fan has proven to be one of the best. Lots of info on the forum about them. My .02

As you contemplate how to set it up, remember to consider a proper shroud and seals to force the air thru the radiator. Air is a lot like water - it will find the 'easiest way' to flow; like around a radiator. A lot of electric fan set-ups can actually cause an overheating problem if not properly set up.

Thanks. That tip put me on to a lot of threads I couldn`t find by searching for èlectric fan`.

My first choice would be a puller setup with a good shroud but that`s not an option in this case. Intuitively it seems to me that a shroud would at best not be effective, and at worst a bad idea in a pusher configuration, but I would be interested in hearing opposing opinions.

Your call, but the MK 8 fan is self contained and will free up a bunch of room (relatively speaking), and more than enough air to keep your engine cool assuming it’s healthy, correct timing and the rest of the cooling system is up to snuff. My 72 is a daily driver and as such I have endeavored to utilize the great brain trust on this forum in adding to its reliability. The MK fan is an amperage hog, so an upgraded alternator would be recommended... also a reliability upgrade for me. Easy obtained and installed, the CS 144 provides more than enough. These two upgrade alone have added considerably to reliability and my piece of mind. I don’t have to keep one eye on the temp gauge and one eye on the volt gauge( also upgraded from stock ammeter), when ambient temps are approaching 3 digits and I’m idling in traffic with the a/c on. My .02

I first tried a puller fan 2200 CFM...it helped but engine still ran close to hot with a 180" thermostat.

I added a 2200 CFM pusher fan in front of the radiator..the combo woirked great...98" ambient air and city traffic/engine stayed at 180*..

The problem was...both fans turned on at the same time causing my CS130 alternator to "lag" for one second which was not good fir the alternator.

SO...I added a 10 second delay relay to the pusher fan...now the alternator doesn't have a overload lag

DblTrbl has a good thread in the Tech Forum on fan combos and rewiring...other members also have good threads in General & Tech Forums

Top of the line cheap 2200 CFM AutoZone E-fans...I'll have to check the label on the fans to refresh my memory of 6 years ago, since I studied several manufacturer CFM/Amp ratings before I decided on a brand. I think the price was about $70 Each.
I agree with other members that OEM fans last a long time...I just didn't want to install 10 year old used fans. I remember they were high-flow/low amp fans compared to others. I bought a pair of them large enough to cover 90% of the radiator surface. The increase in airflow is remarkable using the push-pull combo as opposed to a single pusher or a single puller fan.
