Default Which block do i have?

Hi,

I am trying to decipher my engine block information as the previous owner told me this was from an early 70s C20 truck. It is now in my 1981 C3 and is equipped with an Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 1406 carb, ***** thumpr cam, bored 0.30 over and long headers.

The information on the block is:
  • Casting number: 3970010 (350 chevy block 1969-1980, 2 or 4 bolts)
  • Engine code: V0929TBX (V=Flint production plant; 0929=29SEP, TBX=4 barrel carb, automatic transmission, 155HP, K-10 to 2500 body style)
  • VIN: 19F708084 (1=chevy; 9=1979; F=Flint; 708084=unique vehicle serial number)

This does not seem to match what the previous owner said. I also wonder why they would take a 155HP engine and modify this?

Or am i not reading the code correctly?

TBX is, in fact, a van/truck block. I'm guessing it was easily accessible when a PO needed an engine in a hurry. As far as "embellishing" engine specs-happens all the time. You have to take a seller's spiel with a grain of salt.

The original power number means nothing to your build. The power rating was not caused by the block.....it was caused by terrible stock camshafts and exhaust systems that choked the life out of anything in the 70's and part of the 80's.
Your 010 block is one of the most popular block used for performance builds....and as stated can be 2 or 4 bolt main cap....which means about nothing either as the block is plenty strong to 500 horsepower with 2 bolt caps (Using ARP bolts or studs).
The 010 block ran from 1970 to 1980 too.....so the year is irrelevant as well.
Drive it and enjoy it.

As Jebby said, a block is just a block, its what you put inside that makes is a motor. You block can be used for a 327, a 350, a 383....Thats with just the crank and piston swap. So the stamping is irrelevant. Horsepower comes from the piston,, compression, cylinder head flow, exhausst flow, cam specifics, etc.... ITs like saying this just another Pinto because thats what the label says
