I recently purchased 1970 Stingray with the L46 engine package and 4 speed manual transmission. This car is in need of a complete rebuild as it was sitting out side in a hot climate for 20 years. I am looking for help trying to unlock the linkage and steering wheel which are both locked. The linkage is in the reverse position and will not move. Is there a release or system that must be engaged to free these two systems?
If you have the key, just turn it on and it should release both. If not there is a cable hooked to a lever at the base of the steering column in the engine compartment. The other end of this cable is hooked to the reverse lever on the trans.
Thank you for that feedback. I do not have a battery in the car and the key does not turn. I will get battery and ee if power does the trick. And thanks for the tip on the cable to the steering column base. I will check that as well.

those lock systems are all mechanical. If the cable from the gbox is jammed , you can disconnect it and make sure the lever on the base of column is all the way up .that should get the key free to turn .
Also , if you get the key free and turning and a battery in it , you have a safety switch on the clutch pedal , so pedal down for ignition , that's if it's still wired on. Good Luck .

YOu may have to turn the steering wheel to release pressure on the cylinder lock before turning the ignition switch. Older cars can get a bit of a burr that will hold them locked
I have pulled the ignition cylinder before twice on this car with a dent puller screwed into the key slot. It is one of those things that if it works saves you disassembly of the column to get to it. If it doesn't work, then you resort to the disassembly of the column. This ignition cylinder is held in place by a small plastic spring loaded tab. You might need that if the original ignition lock set isn't working correctly. The bad part is that the door lock cylinders will need to be replaced also to have one key that does it all.
Bridgehampton Blue 71 350 auto trans. I have a 71 454, 4speed that was originally Bridgehampton Blue but when I bought it the color was already changed to the Mulsanne Blue. It is currently getting close to finishing body and paint. I will soon have my baby back on the road. Here is what the new paint looks like on the hood. Can't wait to see the whole car like this.
