Hi. I'm new to this site. Have a couple questions. I installed a new sending unit/fuel pump in my 82. It only came with 2 butt connectors and no heat shrink. Should I install heat shrinking? Didn't know if those 2 wires are ok in fuel without being protected. Also,I'm running that electric fuel pump with and EFI. The gas cap is vented and I don't have the charcoal canister. Do I need to install the return line or can I block that off? Thanks for any info.
That sounds about right. Do you have any?? Maybe I'll remove the in tank pump and install the in line pump, outside of the tank, that goes with the EFI. Also, was that the same answer for the return line? 1st Vette ever. Don't know if you were able to tell ..lol. thanks again
You can test your heat shrink by letting it soak in gasoline for like 24 hours. It'll more than likely be ok. I just took out my fuel pump after like 18 years and the heat shrink is just fine. Anyway-- some more info on fuel resistant heat shrink: https://www.pmgcompanyonline.com/kno...uel-resistant/

Seriously, you can heat shrink over your connectors. but it really won't make much difference. all the OEM's have intank pumps with a plug on connecter. they don't blow up!
In tank pumps are a much better way to go than external pumps. Once again all OEM's run intank pumps.
With your 82 your already setup for an intank pump. you should really keep it that way. as per a return line. check out Holleys pump that has a intank regulator and return.
Ok. I'm gonna listen to you . It just scare me that there's somewhat open wires submerged I gas
I'll try anything once... I guess I can return the pump I bought, and purchase the Holley 1,with everything there. I just figured that with a vented cap and tank, I wouldn't need the return with the electric intake pump.
most pumps for a more modern EFI system will run 100 PSI and 255 liters per hour. they need to be regulated down to the 58PSI that most systems run.
Thus the return line. the Holley setup runs a intank regulator much like a Harley Motorcycle. And yes Harleys have wires in there tanks as well.
there are MANY EFI Conversion threads on here. perhaps do a google search for C3 EFI Conversion threads. And read up.
I converted my car and ran a thread about it over a year ago.
first decide which system your going to run. Then buy a pump to suit.
Cheers and good luck.
