Default Jeep steering box conversion

Does anyone have a parts list and a step by step install on the Jeep steering box conversion? I’ve found lots of info but can’t find this info and most posts for some reason won’t show the pics.

The pics issue is because of a PhotoBucket change a few years ago. Now the forum allows direct upload, so newer threads don't have that issue.

interpon, if you want google to return 100% corvetteforum posts, I use google to search the forum directly. If you enter your search words, then put the string "site:corvetteforum.com" (without the quotes), google will only search this forum.

The Borgeson box is a Jeep box, so use these instructions:

The Jeep box isn't the same as a Borgeson box (For install) .

The Jeep will still have 4 mounting points where as Borgeson cuts that whole plate off and welds on another that has 3 holes that match the C3 frame.

If you Don't have any parts yet , the Borgeson, while more expensive, bolts straight in , the jeep can be bought cheaper , but you will need to fabricate some adaptor plates to turn 4 holes into the 3 matching holes. Both ways need the steering column to be shortened.

I’m not concerned about any modification I was just wondering if there was any more parts needed other then the pitman arm? Is there any modification needed to the steering rod or power steering lines?

Unless the Jeep box is different than the one Borgeson modifies, I think the Pitman arm is optional. You can use a power steering pitman arm with the Borgeson end link (this is what is in my 79, with Borgeson P/S). Presumably you could use a manual pitman arm with a manual steering drag link (this is what is in my 80, only with a manual steering conversion, not Jeep/Borgeson P/S).

You need specific power steering lines. The Borgeson kit works with the Borgeson box, and may be the same for you. There are ferrule adaptors that come with the kit.

Here's some hose info (hopefully you don't have an 80), and the longest running Borgeson install thread:

When folks want to re-engineer their C3, it used to be called DIY (do it yourself). Nothing wrong with asking for potential problem areas or details on a specific modification...

But why would anyone expect that a detailed 'recipe' of all required parts & their numbers and a detailed step-by-step process would be available to them???? Everyone else who has done the same change did it for themselves. No need to go with detailed photos and documentation for SOMEONE ELSE!! Geez.

Because that’s what people do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If a mod has become popular most of the time someone will take the time to do a install to help the next person out. I’ve done it before so I guess it’s not out of the realm of possibility to ask if someone else had done the same for this mod. Plus I’m pretty sure that’s kinda what this forum if for and to share the knowledge. So do you have any actual input on the original question I asked for or do you just like trolling through pages putting your 2cents in on something that wasn’t asked for!

Is this a joke? There are literally thousands of DIY step by steps like this in thousands of forums... Not to mention about half of you tube videos in existence..
