It’s funny how these things work out in life , professional auto mechanic since 1979 , I’ve owned all these scanners new back in the day ( expensive! ) and upgrade, trade in over the years and then one day a 1982 rolls in the shop and you find out none of your new latest and greatest scan tools will work or have connectors for the old stuff , I have literally rebought every thing I used to own back in the day in the last couple years including a Snap On oscilloscope.
if it doesn’t cost much more get the Ford and Chrysler connectors, you never know when a buddy might show up in a Brand X vehicle and be at your mercy. Lol

On another note...If your current carb isn't working properly, you could always send it over to Lars for a rebuild and tune and be running like new again. Just a thought and GL!

From reading the posts over the years, Lars will not rebuild an electronic carb.
I would suggest searching around on ebay, craigslist and google for the Monitor 85 scan tool as well as the special carb tools for for setting up and adjusting. I bought mine, it was like new with adapter, leads, instructions and case for 40 bucks shipped. Also, the 1981 Corvette Shop Manual has all the troubleshooting guides and how to breakdown, setup and how to adjust the carb.
Tool Kits needed: GM Thexton Part number 370 and a 380 kit.

Vacuum Gauge helps when checking final air fuel, gets you in the ballpark to start.
I also called and joined the Cliffs High Performance forum. Great guy, helped me out a lot. I would buy parts for rebuilds from him. Have your carb model number and engine information ready. He will also rebuild for you if you ship it, if you don't want to do it yourself. https://cliffshighperformance.com/
If this car were brought to me I would convince you to go to 1980 or earlier specs.....and I know how to work on CCC. The real question is do you want to dick with this system again? Repairing/Troubleshooting is cool, and I give those that hammer through it props......but after working on dozens of CCC controlled GM cars over the years, the system is ancient garbage......a 40 year old setup that works ok when it works.....
The conversion can be done cleanly and effectively and I will personally guarantee that the car will run better if the distributor is curved.
As far as the CCC carb having better control over fuel......maybe. But I can setup an 81' 350 to get close to 20 MPG all around.......that is ALL an 8 to 1 small block will ever get.....
Just ask someone who has a well tuned 75-80 Vette with long tube headers and true duals........the engine is a dream in this setup.....and WAY more powerful and efficient than the CCC will ever hope to be.
In conclusion, it is just as much work to chase an issue with CCC than it is to get rid of it and have piece of mind.....
It is your car, and do what you will......I am just spouting off from experience, a LOT of it.......
Well, I was hoping to post good news by now about how this problem has been resolved but it's all still up in the air this morning. The '81 is not my car yet. The owner is not a vette guy even though he's owned this car for nearly 40 years, to him it's just another car, he has dozens of them. He offered to sell it to me a couple of weeks ago and when we went to test drive it she wouldn't start, flooded badly. The carb didn't look good, lots of crude on it so I surmised that it probably needed a rebuild or something. He called his mechanic who suggest a swap and at first that's what I thought he was gonna do but now the mechanic thinks it just needs a rebuild. My worry is this mechanic doesn't know that this is a one of a kind, one year only CCC! And he'll botch it up. I hope to be able to drive it later this week so then we'll know. I appreciate everyone's input in how to fix this problem, if I do buy it I'll need to decide if I can do the tuning myself with the proper tools or will I just replace it and the distributor.
