Default Problem with Vintage Air install

I'm in the process of installing a Vintage Air system in my 70 Coupe. It's going OK but I'm running into one issue. The hard lines coming from the evaporator unit under the dash do not line up correctly where they fit through the firewall. The problem is that the suction line and one of the heater water lines touch. They are supposed to be separated by about 1/2" so they can fit through their individual holes in the firewall cap. I've tried swiveling them slightly, but obviously they'll only go one way and I can't separate them without throwing the whole arrangement out of line. Then none of the hoses line up.

You can see where they meet in the first pic (circled in red). I can force the cap on, as shown in the second pic, but the cap is forcing the lines apart where the red arrow is. I don't think this constant pressure on the lines would be good. Plus the rubber grommet that supposed to seal the gap between the cap and hose would be crushed to one side.

I thought about cutting the cap to remove the separation between the two lines and just using silicone or press tape to seal the gaps, but then the lines would be touching. I don't know if this matters. The water line would only be hot when the heater is on. The suction line would only be in use with A/C on, right? Since I'll never have the A/C and heat on at the same time, will this matter?

Got tubing bender?
Can you index the cap 90* lefft after slightly tweaking the tubing to get some clearance?

Not sure if this helps, here are a few pictures of mine. Probably not the best angle for what you are looking for.

If it's any help I had to "convince" the tubes on mine to play nice together and still fit through the firewall plate. I just muscled them around to where they needed to be. Good luck.

I did think about bending it. I don't have a bender big enough, but I think I can do it w/o kinking. Doesn't need much. Now that I know others have done it successfully, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I had the exact same issue and also had to 'massage' mine to make them line up and fit properly. I only had to bend them slightly but it was enough to get that plate over them.
Also in your picture it looks like the foam insulation on the line doesn't fully go all the way to the fitting/blue cap (see Dave's pictures). I know this gives a bit of space between the two lines. Maybe the foam slide back a little too far? I would see if this gives you the additional clearance you need as well.

Call the Tech Line at Vintage Air. They are very good about helping their customers when these kinds of issues come up. They probably have very good suggestions on how to BEST resolve your issues.

I had the same issue and installed it that way but couldn't handle the look so I took the unit out and made them line up. They will but its like a puzzle, and it takes a little bending.
