Default 79 L82 speedometer boincing help please

I had my speedometer assembly out to fix wiper switch..all went well but i did put small amount of slicone super lube grease on end of cable and assembled..
the speedometer bounced everywhere..took off sprayed both ends electronic plastic cleaner to remove grease, bounced a few times can go to zero if i go backwards..the it worked fine until highway high speed maxed out..its all over the place. Took apart again cleaned and hit or miss, sometimes works fine.. very high bounce low speed like 1 mph..
did i screw something up? Is it the cable? I hope.
read lots of threads about oil no oil grease speed lube graphite...
recommendation? Does the cable pull out from inside clean and relube?
yes mytach is off 500 at low rpm, no cruise control.
it always had slight tick at lower speeds
odometer seems to work fine
thank you..for any help

Really bouncy speedo needle can be one of 2 things. the cable binding, or in the head itself. cable can be removed from the top of the housing. Unhook from back of speedo. then slide it all the way out. Clean it well, lube with graphite, lube as you slide it back into the housing. go for a test drive. Or replace entire cable and housing. If that doesn't help. rebuild or replace the speedo itself.

thanks..
I am getty pretty fast at cable access..pulled cleaned, use some dri film
installed, usual slight wobble low speed, then at about 30 mph it max bounced again, then settled and worked to 50 mph.
ordered some kable-ease on amazon..will highway test and see if it goes bad again..hoping its not the gauge..

When mine was bouncing it was a worn gear in the speedometer.

GRAPHITE ONLY GRAPHITE. Listen. Learn it live it! Not trying to be a jerk but there is a reason for graphite. It's a superior lubricant it lasts and it doesn't get hot and run down the cable.

It was always bouncing and you could hear a clicking too. The gear driving the odometer was worn and the odometer needed to be lubricated. The odometer gets hard to turn when they get old and that causes the gears to strip out. The speedometer drives the odometer gears so when the gears slip the speedometer jumps.

removed, solvent cleaned dried..
mixed xylol and powdered graphite poured down hanging cable...dry puffed on more graphite..inserted like a #2 pencil into cable housing ( cover oyster seats and wear gloves is a tip..)
Only low speed and i mean very low speed like a few revolutions and it ticks...get going no issues..even highway now doesn’t flutter like it did ( got to 80)...so all that is left is
- leave it drive it maybe gets better?
- use kable-ease ( no idea what it is)
- new cable time?
only 35xxx miles almost out of warranty..42 years 36000 miles..

cable looks new..I did struggle to get last 2 - 3 nches in, last few times it went easier thos time took a few attempts, the cable takes a pretty tight turn at transmission on a manual..

what a great day for a drive ..seen 3 vettes.. a c4 a c whatever newer.. obviously only the c3 has the style

thanks for advice..im hoping its not the gauge..
anyone buy a new cable recently? Any usa stuff..difficulty? If i go that route..

Just for kicks, I would take the cable loose from the transmission and chuck it up in a drill, and spin it in reverse, to see if it bounces or not. If it doesn't bounce, you know your problem is before the cable.
