Default Oil Pressure Gauge

Got everything working in the console, including the old clock. But the only thing I seem to be having an issue with it the oil pressure gauge. When I start car, it goes all the way up. I followed the testing procedures in Wilcox and it showed that it was the sensor. i changed sensor and it does the same thing. Any idea?

you really need to include at least the year ... sensor makes me think electronic gauge rather than mechanical ...

Did you put a non-conductive sealer/sealant on the sensor threads? Those threads need to mesh with the cylinder block to complete the electrical circuit.

Another [good] possibility that I've run across in the past:
The guy at the parts store sold you an oil pressure sender that is only meant for triggering a dash 'warning' light that oil pressure is low (instead of a 'guage' sending unit). It will always read off-scale 'high' with engine ON and read "zero" pressure with ignition ON and engine OFF (internal switch closed which shorts it to ground).

Your oil pressure sending unit should look like this.

That's what the 'original' unit should look like.

Guys, I have a similar problem, but my car is a C5 2002 Z06. In December, the oil pressure indications (both the dash gauge and the digital readout) now peg at max (about 145 psi) when the car is running. The gauge and digital readout immediately head toward pegged at max when the ignition is turned on. Car runs fine, no leaks, etc. Friend of mine told me it's likely the sending unit has internally shorted. That sound right? To reiterate, this is a C5. 2002 Z06

Anyone have an idea what parts and labor are to replace it?

Thanks, Mike in Athens, AL
