So I just finished a Borgeson steering install on a 79 manual transmission, the problem is the clutch linkage z bar hits the steering box preventing the clutch peddle from going all the way to the floor which also prevents the car from starting. All the threads that I’ve read don’t address this problem, must have been automatics. Any help or ideas should be greatly appreciated!
Is the unit mounted flush to the frame with the 3 bolts. If it is just a bit crooked it would hit the clutch lever. Maybe the clutch lever is bent towards the steering unit.
Does the Z bar have any play in it side to side?
It's really to bad. The first test drive is shocking. This is such huge improvement to manual steering. I know you will figure it out. Literally 3 finger steering.
I had the same problem but assumed it was because i had an automatic car that I changed to a 4 speed. I was able to ajust the clutch out about 2/16 and that took care of it for me. Still have almost an inch of free play in the peddle so I think my throw out bearing should be good. Oh and your love the Borgeson once you get your problem sorted.
79 m here..
sounds maybe silly but my nut on end of bar last week came loose..check both ends just to be sure...picked up a few threads too after readjustment for 1 1/4 play at pedal.
