Tires
I just put a set of Hancook 255 60\15's on my '77 to complete my suspension rebuild. The rear end is all new - the front has new shocks, a new power steering pump and cylinder. I left the front coils for when I rebuild the A-arms. I had previously had 225 70R15's on the car but they were, he says embarrassingly, from what I could tell some 33 years old.
Observation - the car rides COMPLETELY different now than it did before. It's very nice and controlled but...and I don't know if this is the way the car SHOULD handle or not, it's very easy to steer now. She corners great and all but before, with the smaller albeit older tires, the steering felt much heavier. Especially in parking lot type maneuvers. Now it's as easy to steer as an old Cadillac. Not complaining just wondering if that's the way it should be.
The old tires might just as well have been square, stone wheels but I'm just wondering if the larger rubber could, in fact, make the car that much easier to steer. I mean, I'd think that the bigger tires would make the car harder to steer, no?
Yes. The pump and cylinder where on the car with the old tires.
On my '69 BB with 255/15/60 Cooper's, I run 28 ft and 26 rear (per my gauge) and the tires wear evenly.
