For just a cruiser it doesn't really matter,, just regular shocks.
For a smooth ride....Monroe SensaTrac shocks....measure the distance from the upper mount to the lower mount...use the chart on the Monroe site to find the correct REAR shocks if they aren't listed because of the car's age.
I want to lower mine too, but keep the 15" wheels. I already have 8" bolts. I bought some 10", I have yet to install but am afraid of hanging below the rim. My understanding is the top two leaves are really just spacers, removing them would only gain the thickness of them. I think I remember my '74 L-48 having a 9 leaf, maybe that was added later? What about the first spring that actually has a curve to it, could that be removed, effectively softening the spring and allowing the car to sit lower? Lots of guys with old leaf sprung hot rods have done it for eons. The car rides pretty rough as it is, a softer spring would not bother me a bit. I don't race, there's no canyons to carve around here, so I am more concerned with looks than handling. I have had several extremely low cars in the past, including a '65 Riviera with air suspension that will sit on the pavement with the air out, so I know how to drive a low car. I am aware of the issue with the bolts and the diff housing.
My 75 had leafs removed by P O, the 2nd and 3rd leafs, ( from a 9 leaf pack ) counting from top down, and have 6.5" bolts. 58k mi on it, and wheel well lip measures 27" at high point , to ground. The main leaf sags backwards a bit, [ not sure if its from age and use or other reasons ] Drives great at this time. Half shafts are slightly pointing up towards the wheel, so likely ruining the u-joints,,my guess,, Rear camber between 0° and 5°,, I don't know what was done in the front, but, wheelwells measure the same as rear. .
.
IMHO, , I would remove leafs, befor I went with longer bolts,,,🤷

Yes I do have answers. I'll wait until you post them up properly.
Time has passed since this thread started, and I now have a glass mono spring in the rear. I have the ride height the same as before useing 8" bolts for adjusting. Also now have Bilstein shocks, but I don't beleave shocks will effect the ride height if they are the correct ones.
What is your measurement from the pavement to the highest point at the wheel opening?
Putting this info in a new thread is helpful to get a solution.
Also, many many different options will come out,,,,lol,, 😉

Well isn't it nice to keep the information all in one place but in any event I have started a new thread- thanks

. Well, roads around NE Ohio are not great, but, i discerned a great improvement in giving a smoother ride. I have a 330 spring, and B6 ( or the old term "Heavy Duty" ) Bilstein all around. It honestly rides better than my wife's Deville. I'm extremely happy with the ride performance.
