Default 70 454 intake manifold question

So while cleaning up my gross 454, I noticed what appeared to be extra gasket beside the carb thermostat choke. I peeled it back and there’s a hole in the head there which has me puzzled. It’s the factory intake and heads. Did the gasket just cover this up? Any information is greatly appreciated.

If you Google an image of a 70 454 head you will see it is one of the open areas surrounding the exhaust cross over in the head.

Yep i found a pic of the 290 head and the intake manifold gasket last night which showed the odd black hole void to no where. I just was confused when i uncovered it. Its getting new gaskets anyways. Thanks guys!
