What ever you do, get rid of those stock heads.

Default Edelbrock 2038

I have the stock mechanical fuel pump so I'm not overly worried about it.
I have to take measurements with the stock hood to try and see what clearance I have. I would rather not have to replace the hood, but anything for squeezing more horses out of the L48.
Hi All:

Not sure if this helps, but here is my experience with the Edelbrock 2038 Kit. I have a 76 l48 auto, and had the engine rebuilt last year, and thought I would also add the 2038 kit, because I wanted a 350/350hp.

I found a mechanic to rebuild the engine, and he said "We can do better" The mechanic didnt like the cam kit (Edelbrock 2117) it came with, and swapped it out for a Comp Cam 12-254-3.

The engine was bored 0.30 over, and balanced with a forged Eagle Crank, Mahle rings, and Hyper pistons. The Heads with the kit are e-street (Edelbrock 5089), and didnt come with rockers, so I bought some Comp Cam roller rockers (17001-16).

The kit came with a Performer EPS intake (Edelbrock 2701), and a free AVS2 650 Carb at the time (Edelebrock19064). The Intake fits under the hood even with the neoprene spacer (Edelbrock 9266), and a K&N filter, but its tight.

The Edelbrock kit also came with hydralic lifters from the Cam Kit, Push Rods (9630), Performer-Link Chain gear set (7800), head gasket set (7361), intake bolts (8504), and head bolts (8550).

I also bought a fluid ampr.

I had a bigger Rad built locally, and the distributer was re-curved,

The tranny has a 3000 stall converter in it for now until I either have it rebuilt, change it to a 5spd ($$$$$), or it gives up the ghost.

It goes pretty good, pulls as long as you are willing to keep your foot in it. I have had it up to more than 7000rpm, probably closer to 8000rpm.

So in all truthfullness would I do it differently, than buying a kit.

Straight answer is Yes. For the amount of $$$ I have spent for something that started out as a bolt on power add on for a rebuild, I could have easily bought a good GM crate motor maybe a ZZ6, or a stroker.

Where do you stop once you buy the kit, as all things are related.

My 2 Cents.

@Roentgen It's a bit old thread but did you have to grind those rockers or did they fit 5089 head's springs? The thing is that 17001 have max spring dimater 1.43" listed. And the heads have 1.43 springs installed.

Does anybody else have Edelbrock 5089 heads with Comp Cam roller rockers (17001-16) installed?

First of all if you want to make HP don't use an Edelbrock carb . And don't buy a kit. Research
