I'm planning to take my differential down for a rebuilt. I don't have the tools and don't believe to have the skills to do it by myself.
Anyone knows a local place in SoCal where I can bring my diff to? I'm about to inquire JD Corvette. Thoughts?
Hi Antonio, I just got my rebuilt diff back from Van Steel in FL. Shipped it to them (along with a bunch of other stuff) because they have a great reputation. They were great to work with, kept me informed, and everything they did looks 100% top notch. I highly recommend them. Best, Paul
Among the part I sent was the diff cross member. They blasted it, powder coated it, and installed new bushings - so you might consider that while you're at it too.....
You're most welcome, and I understand the shipping part - it was pretty expensive to ship.
Don't forget u joints while you're at it - for the half shafts and diff. You'll have them out anyway - but be aware that good u joints like spicer's are in very short supply, so order early.

Insist on solid Spicers if you can. I had my trailing arms and half-shafts sent out to be rebuilt. Solid Spicers cost a bit extra, but were well worth it.
Gary out in CT is THE corvette diff guru! I haven't yet run the diff he rebuilt for me, but it sure does look pretty sitting on the bench waiting to be installed. Yes the shipping does add to the overall cost, but in my opinion, it is well worth it to have an EXPERT do the job.
If you don't want to ship it off to Gary, and you're looking for someone local, you might try calling Coastal Differential Repair in Ventura. I think they're on Palma Dr.
I know of at least one other member here that had them build a couple differentials for his autocross car (Flared C3 w/335s in back).
I haven't had them do one for me yet, but when I talked to them a few years ago, they seemed very knowledgeable and familiar with the issues that the C2/C3 rearends have.

If your just a guy who doesn't race and don't go past 4000 rpm, you may not need to send your diff across the country. But if you like to drive the car hard, send the diff to CT.
Ed over at 4 wheel specialties in north hills is excellent, been using that shop for many yrs. Friendly, gets it done right and doesnt gouge. Not a fancy place but you wont have to bring it back. 818 830-1447
