What is your timing setup at? Hook the vacuum advance to full manifold vacuum.....that alone may solve your issue......yours is not hooked up and needs to be.

You are correct but the previous owner said that he changed either the springs or the weights in the distributor so I dont know how that will affect things.

It won't....vacuum advance is a whole different animal.....vacuum and mechanical advance work together, having it unplugged is not correct. Vacuum advance will affect coolant temps at idle and light part throttle cruising.

No, I did not. 210 deg is not a problem with good oil.
