Default Side Exhaust System

I am considering the side exhaust systems offered by the big catalog companies for my 74 small block. Are these a good choice and do I go with stainless or aluminum? Also need info or experiences with the fiberglass exhaust covers that may be painted as an alternative to the costly factory reproduction covers.

I went with the stainless ones. For the extra bucks I think they are worth it. The fibreglass covers are fine. They tend to pick up road dirt on the front where they wrap around behind the front wheels. You can get a better picture of mine if you check my website. If you need more closeups just let me know.

Side exhaust is one most personal thing you can add to you car. If you noticed the CF has a topic on side exhaust almost constantly. I have the fiberglass covers painted black that blend into the white body very naturally. They almost give the impression of the original rocker panels. I did not go for the after market version of the pipes. I had mine made to my specification. I did not use Aluminized or SS pipes. I figured if I made a mistake with my engineering it would be less costly. I also concluded that the way the car is driven the steel would last for 5 years or better or untill I tired ot the noise.

I had a set of NOS GM pipes which are not aluminized or stainless, just plain exhaust tubing. I put on less than 1k miles a years so they should last me quite a while. The fiberglass covers are a good alternative to the repro chorme as far as price goes.
